What the course covers

7 modules, mapped to the task numbers in American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT)'s published UT Level II General content outline.

  1. How ultrasound travels, reflects and refracts (task UT.1.1, UT.1.2, UT.1.3, UT.1.4)
Wave modes, velocity and wavelength · Acoustic impedance, reflection and transmission · Refraction, Snell's law and critical angles · The sound beam: near field, beam spread and attenuation
  2. Instruments, probes, calibration and techniques (task UT.1.5, UT.1.6, UT.1.7, UT.1.8)
The flaw detector, its controls and its displays · Transducers, wedges and couplants · Calibrating range and sensitivity on reference blocks · Contact, immersion, pulse-echo and through-transmission techniques
  3. Testing base material product forms (task UT.2.1, UT.2.2, UT.2.3, UT.2.4, UT.2.5)
Ingots and castings · Plate, sheet, bar and rod · Pipe and tubular products · Forgings · Composites and other product forms
  4. Testing welds (task UT.3.1, UT.3.2, UT.3.3, UT.3.4)
Welding processes and joint geometry · Weld discontinuities, where they form and how they lie · Angle-beam scanning of welds: skip, surface distance and depth · How weld discontinuities respond to sound
  5. Testing bonded structures (task UT.4.1, UT.4.2, UT.4.3)
How bonded and laminated parts are made · Disbonds, delaminations and voids · Techniques for bond lines
  6. Finding discontinuities: sensitivity, resolution and the pulse (task UT.5.1, UT.5.2, UT.5.3, UT.5.4)
What makes a reflector detectable · Near-surface, axial and lateral resolution · Pulse shape, length, damping and bandwidth · Relevant, non-relevant and false indications
  7. Evaluating indications and reporting (task UT.6.1, UT.6.2, UT.6.3)

Questions

When do I get access?

Straight away. Checkout takes you to your course, and the receipt email has the same link.

Can I get a refund?

Yes. Full refund within 14 days of buying, for any reason, unless you have finished both timed practice exams for any course in your order. One refund per customer. See the refund terms.

How long do I keep access?

For as long as we offer the course, and at least 3 years. Updates are included, so if American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) moves this exam to a newer code edition while you have access, your course moves with it.

What is the difference between the practice pack and the course?

The practice pack is the question bank and the timed practice exams. The course adds a lesson for every task in American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT)'s content outline, worked calculations, a study plan built from your diagnostic and an exam-day checklist. If any domain scored under about 60%, take the course.

Are the questions copied from the exam?

No. Every question is original and written to American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT)'s published content outline. Exam content is confidential and we never use it. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT).

Can my employer pay?

Yes. Pay at checkout and we email a receipt you can expense, or download a reimbursement request to send your manager.

Can you promise I will pass?

No, and nobody honest can. What we promise is the content listed above.
