How to verify an ASNT NDT Level II certification online

Read the ASNT versus employer certification guide if the program names are unfamiliar. Keep the issuing organization, method and certification level together throughout the check.

Start with ASNT's certificate-holder search

✓ The ASNT Certification Services homepage links directly to its public Search Certificate and Qualification Holders tool. The search page checked 17 Oct 2026 provides last name or record number, plus state, country and program type filters.

For a certificate claimed to be issued by ASNT:

• Read the full program name on the document. ASNT NDT Level II and ASNT 9712 Level II are different programs.
• Copy the holder's name and record number carefully. Avoid substituting a training invoice or course-completion number.
• Open the search from ASNT's own website, select the relevant program and use the available search fields.
• Compare the returned record with the document and the work requirement. Check the method, level, scope and current validity information wherever the result provides them.
• Save a dated verification record for your review file. If a needed detail is absent, obtain clarification from ASNT before relying on it.

ASNT also hosts a Credential Verification page with credential, last-name, state and ZIP-code fields. Start with the certificate-holder database linked from the current homepage; use the additional tool only where its credential selection matches the document you are checking.

What if the search finds no match?

A missing result is a reason to investigate. It does not by itself prove that the document is false or that the person lacks employer certification. Recheck spelling, record number, filters and the issuing organization. Ask the holder for a clear copy of the document and its full program name rather than relying on a résumé abbreviation.

If the claim is an ASNT-issued credential and the discrepancy remains, use the contact route on the ASNT program page to request clarification. A search error, unavailable page or missing field should be recorded as an incomplete check. Do not describe it as a successful verification.

Can ASNT verify employer-issued SNT-TC-1A certificates?

ASNT's database is not a universal register of every employer's Level II certifications. Its June 2026 advisory explains that SNT-TC-1A guides an employer's own qualification and certification system through its written practice.

The advisory says training institutes may provide training and may conduct examinations for an employer under the applicable requirements. They cannot independently issue SNT-TC-1A certification. A training document signed by an ASNT NDT Level III does not, by that signature alone, establish an employer certification decision. Verifying the signer's ASNT credential therefore does not verify the trainee's employer-issued certificate.

For a claimed employer certification, ask the issuing employer's responsible certification contact to confirm the record. Keep training completion, examination evidence and the certification decision distinct.

What should you ask the employer for?

Use this as a review checklist, then have the responsible Level III or technical reviewer identify what the applicable written practice requires:

• The current employer-issued certification record, including the person's identity, level, method, scope, dates and any restrictions.
• Identification of the written practice and revision used for the certification decision.
• Confirmation of the training and experience evidence supporting that decision.
• Confirmation of the applicable vision, General, Specific, practical and job-specific examination records.
• The responsible certification authority and confirmation that the record remains current for the proposed assignment.

These are questions to resolve, not a claim that one generic document package satisfies every employer or contract. Ask a new employer how it will assess prior records and what remains before authorization to work.

Even an ASNT-issued NDT Level II credential leaves employer responsibilities. The ASNT NDT Level II program page assigns visual acuity, practical and any required job-specific examinations to the employer under its written practice. An online match cannot establish that every workplace requirement has been completed.

Organization directories answer a different question

✓ ASNT's EBC accreditation registry searches organizations by name and filters. The Employer Based Certification program audits organizational written practices and certification packages. An employer's accreditation listing is not an individual technician's ASNT-issued credential.

Record the two checks separately when both matter: the organization's accreditation and the individual's certification evidence. Neither substitutes for reviewing the scope required for the job.
